Tribit Stormbox Micro Review – A Small But Mighty Portable Rugged Bluetooth Speaker

Size doesn’t always matter. As the Tribit StormBox Micro proves, big sound can come in a small package. The tiny, portable, rugged Bluetooth speaker produces a far larger, and higher fidelity, sound than its tiny footprint betrays. Tribit consistently offers some of the best sounding, budget-priced speakers and headphones, from its XFree Tune and XSound Go to the QuietPlus active noise-canceling headphones. Boasting superb quality and shockingly good bass, the StormBox Micro is one of the best portable Bluetooth speaker options on the market.

Tribit StormBox Micro Specs and Build Quality

Hailing from Tribit, the StormBox Micro is, as its name suggests, a small form factor portable speaker. It’s rugged, dustproof, and water-resistant with an IP67 rating. As such, the StormBox Micro is a go-anywhere speaker that’s even capable of full water immersion. It’s the perfect hiking, biking, and outdoor adventuring companion. Onboard, you’ll find a tear-resistant strap for affixing the StormBox Micro to your bicycle, backpack, or hammock. It’s got an eight-hour battery life with a USB-C charging port.  For connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0 comes standard. There’s no 3.5mm audio jack for a hardwired connection, however. On the top of its mesh grille are volume up and down buttons plus a play/pause control. The side features a power button and battery indicator. While volume is great from a single StormBox Micro, you can pair two speakers for stereo or party mode.

Build quality is impressive. Its modest 3.87 by 3.87 by 1.37 inches (7.3 by 7.3 by 3.5 cm) footprint is about the same size as the Google Home Mini. And its 9.9 ounces (280 grams) weight is light enough that toting it is effortless, yet it’s not so weightless that the StormBox Micro feels delicate. The IP67 rating means a quick swim in shallow water won’t harm the Tribit. Balancing rugged construction with a pleasing to the touch exterior. the StormBox Micro marvelously succeeds. It’s equally at home on a living room end table nestled by your house plants and Himalayan salt lamp as it is poolside, strapped to your hiking backpack, or tethered to your bike handles. The mesh fabric grille looks and feels wonderful, while the bottom rubberized half provides a good grip in your hand or any surface.

Tribit StormBox Micro Review

The Tribit StormBox Micro may be a small Bluetooth speaker, but its sound is much larger. Especially for its size, the StormBox Micro can fill a medium room easily. What’s more, sound quality is top-notch, even with the volume cranked. John Lee Hooker’s warbling baritone on “One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer” stays crisp. Hooker’s vocals, bass string plucks, guitar strums, and piano key hits were afforded their equal weight.

On the Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil,” vocals remain upbeat. The layered guitars ring pure with clear bass notes. The rich tunes emanate crystal clear. Bass performance brings about the downfall of many a would-be stellar speaker. Happily, the StormBox Micro handles the low-end with grace thanks to its built-in XBass. “X” by Kendrick Lamar featuring Schoolboy Q, 2 Chainz, and Saudi off of the “Black Panther” soundtrack proved fun and punch with balanced mids and lows.

I appreciate the balanced soundstage that Tribit offers with its StormBox Micro. Despite its diminutive stature, the StormBox Micro tackles any genre you throw at it elegantly. If you truly crank the volume, there’s occasionally a bit of minor distortion. However, that’s only evident if you push the StormBox Micro to its volume limits. Plus, pretty much any speaker or headphones will show some distortion if really tested. Still, it’s worth noting. The StormBox Micro is far louder with a higher fidelity sound than similarly sized speakers. When compared with my Google Home Mini and Amazon Echo Dot, the StormBox Micro blew both out of the water.

Final Thoughts – Should You Buy the Tribit StormBox Micro?

Tribit once again wows high-performing, good-sounding speaker. The StormBox Micro boasts excellent quality, shockingly robust bass performance, and fantastic quality. No matter what I threw at the StormBox Micro, from music to podcasts, it managed to impress. I was pleasantly surprised with its ability to fill a medium-sized room. Moreover, solid build quality including an IP67 dust-proof and water-resistant rating along with a built-in silicone strap makes the Tribit StormBox Micro a go-anywhere portable Bluetooth speaker that doesn’t compromise on audio quality.
