Dreo Macro Pro Air Purifier DR-HAP002 Review Verdict
The Dreo Macro Pro is an excellent true HEPA air purifier. Its three-state, 360-degree air cleansing system utilizes a medical-grade H13 actual HEPA filter that’s capable of removing particulates as small as 0.3 microns. As a dude with long hair that has a shaggy dachshund yorkie (also known as a dorkie) companion, there’s a lot of shed hair. But the Dreo Macro Pro noticeably reduced the amount of dust and pet hair build-up.
I intentionally vacuumed less regularly to test the Dreo DR-HAP002’s performance and was pleased with its dirt, hair, and dust removal. Likewise, the Macro Pro successfully reduces odors and VoCs. While using my Elegoo Mars 3 Pro resin 3D printer, I set the Dreo air purifier nearby and it noticeably cut down on the smelly resin. I even noticed my seasonal allergies haven’t been as bad with the Dreo removing pollen from the air.
The cylindrical design is both aesthetically pleasing and practical, allowing for 360-degree air purification. At its slowest fan speed, the Dreo puts out merely 20dB of noise. Even at higher levels, it’s still pretty low. In my experience, watching TV worked just fine with the Dreo Macro Pro air purifier running in its turbo mode.
There’s an automatic mode that senses air quality and adjusts the fan speed accordingly. An LED indicator light visually shows the detected air quality. Alternatively, you can set the mode manually. A timer lets you set the Dreo air purifier to automatically shut down after 2, 4, or 8 hours, so you can leave it on as you’re falling asleep. During my testing, I discovered the automatic mode to work flawlessly, and while I did try out the manual fan settings, I mostly left it in auto mode.
Its footprint isn’t enormous, but it’s also not tiny. Dreo’s DR-HAP002 slots in somewhere between my small Puraclenz P1500 air purifier and much larger Winix 5300-2. As such, some users could find it difficult to place, although that goes for virtually any air purifier. Overall, if you want a high-performing air purifier for small to medium-sized rooms that won’t break the bank, the Dreo Macro Pro is your best choice.
Dreo Macro Pro DR-HAP002 Air Purifier Design and Build
The Dreo Macro Pro air purifier arrives in a cylindrical form factor. On top, you’ll find a whole host of different controls or indicator lights including a filter reset button, timer button, sleep mode button, manual mode button, child lock, turbo mode option, audio mode button, and power button.
On the front of the unit, there’s a helpful air quality indicator light. Blue means your air is excellent, green means it’s good, orange needs improvement, and red is the danger zone.
Around back, you’ll find a barrel jack power connector slot.
Underneath, the bottom cover rotates off for easy access to the replaceable filter.
Dreo Air Purifier DR-HAP002 vs. The Competition
As an indoor air quality enthusiast, I’ve got no shortage of air purifiers peppered around my home. The Winix 5300-2 is a great HEPA air purifier capable of capturing 99.97% of airborne pollutants as small as 0.3 microns. Like the Dreo, it comes with a three-stage filtration system. The Winix has a slightly higher CADR rating, being suitable for 360 square foot spaces, but it’s much larger than the Dreo.
Similarly, my Winix C555 performs incredibly well and utilizes a triple-stage true HEPA filter that can eliminate particles as small as 0.3 microns. However, it’s significantly bigger than the Dreo, more expensive, and filters can be difficult to find.
My Puraclenz P1500 is a completely different sort of air purifier altogether. Rather than a HEPA-based system, the Puraclenz relies on commercial-grade photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) cell technology. Essentially, PCO excites titanium dioxide using ultraviolet (UV) light to generate hydroxyl radicals which cause a chemical reaction with airborne particles and VoCs. The P1500 is smaller than the Dreo and does a better job with VoCs, but it’s far more expensive.
When compared with other true HEPA air purifiers, the Dreo Macro Pro is an outstanding value that’s high-performing but doesn’t break the bank.
Dreo Air Purifier Macro Pro DR-HAP002 Review – Final Thoughts
The Dreo Macro Pro air purifier is a solid choice for improving indoor air quality. It’s reasonably priced, works perfectly in small to medium-sized rooms, and reduces airborne particles in your home. Unless you need more air changes per minute and hour, or require an industrial-grade PCO air purifier, the Dreo Macro Pro DR-HAP002 is arguably the best true HEPA air purifier for most people.
