Deep Sentinel Review Verdict

Deep Sentinel Review - Deep Sentinel Wireless Camera System
The Deep Sentinel Wireless Camera System consists of a hub and camera(s)

With its nifty combination of advanced AI monitoring alongside human prevention, Deep Sentinel is one of the best smart home security systems for identifying and preventing crime like package theft or break-ins. Although terms like “artificial intelligence” and even smart home technology in general might sound complicated, Deep Sentinel is easy to install. Simply plug in the hub’s power and Ethernet cable, download the Deep Sentinel app on Android or iOS, then follow the on-screen instructions to get your hub and camera(s) talking.

The hub is modestly-sized and even includes a hollowed-out middle section that serves as a charging cradle for an extra camera battery. You’ve got everything you need in the box including Deep Sentinel window stickers plus a yard sign to warn would-be robbers or other criminals.

Unboxing the Deep Sentinel wireless security camera is a real treat. There’s the hub, camera(s), a quick start guide, promotional packages, and two boxes helpfully labeled “Install” and “Connect.” The Install box packs a full-size screwdriver, screws, and a masonry drill bit (which I found useful since I live in a brick…house). The Connect box houses the hub’s power and Ethernet cables.

After unboxing, I plugged in the Deep Sentinel hub, downloaded the Android companion app, and connected my hub to the internet. The Deep Sentinel app guides you through its straightforward set up which includes slotting an extra battery into the hub’s charging dock, pairing a camera, then mounting your wireless home security camera. With a camera in place, you can select a “Protection Zone,” or simply put, the motion detection area.

Unlike many security camera setups, Deep Sentinel is always armed. You don’t toggle the system on and off, but rather leave it in place to monitor your abode. Especially considering the camera battery’s impressive three-month-long capacity, you’ll likely forget you’ve got Deep Sentinel installed. The app works well, and installation is a breeze even for first-time smart home folks. I liked the crisp QHD camera quality, effective night vision, two-way audio, and loud siren. Its combination of AI monitoring and human intervention makes Deep Sentinel a set-it-and-forget-about-it (that’s a good thing with home security) solution.

Just connect the Deep Sentinel hub’s power and Ethernet cables, fire up the app, and follow the on-screen prompts to get started (it’s extremely user-friendly)

Disappointingly, there’s no integration with other smart home ecosystems which meant the Deep Sentinel hub was yet another device plugged in next to my Philips Hue bridge, Samsung SmartThings Aeotec hub, Kodak Infinio security camera hub, Blink indoor security camera hub, and…well, you get the picture. Additionally, the camera bundle and monitoring service don’t come cheap. Nevertheless, Deep Sentinel is an outstanding option that watches your home so you don’t have to.

How Does Deep Sentinel Work?

So how does Deep Sentinel work? When Deep Sentinel’s cameras detect motion, the camera wakes up and begins transmitting a video stream to the hub. The hub uses its artificial intelligence system to process video footage and analyze the situation. In the event of human presence, LiveSentinel guards view the live footage for verification and take action if necessary. Guards can bellow “Hello!” using the two-way radio, sound the 104-decibel alarm, or dispatch the police in extreme circumstances.

Deep Sentinel Video Quality

The wireless security camera’s 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution video quality is top-notch. I liked the crystal-clear video footage, whether watching a live-stream in the Android app or playing back recorded footage. The 140-degree field of view boasts plenty of monitoring real estate.

Deep Sentinel App Experience

The Deep Sentinel app (for Android and iPhone) is pretty streamlined. Smart home enthusiasts seeking tons of control might be a bit disappointed, but the basic interface makes Deep Sentinel great for beginners and power users alike. On the home screen, you’ll find an archive of recent history activity alongside a thumbnail of the video and an assigned guard name. Beside each camera, there’s a battery status indicator.

Clicking into a camera gives you a two-way audio option reading “Press and hold to talk,” so you can chat with visitors, surprised food delivery drivers, or trick-or-treaters. The “More Controls” button lets you toggle on the siren, change your motion zone activity area, and even configure a pre-recorded message like “Hey, kids! Get off my lawn!”

A history tab lets you view a recent activity log with recorded videos available for playback. And you can choose your notifications. For instance, you can pick to be notified only when law enforcement is contacted or when a live Sentinel Agent is verified.

Smart Home Integration

Unfortunately, Deep Sentinel doesn’t offer any integrations with other smart home platforms like Samsung SmartThings, Z-Wave, ZigBee, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, or Google Assistant. On the one hand, that makes Deep Sentinel a digital fortress of sorts since it eschews the security flaws of Bluetooth, for example. However, it’s a double-edged sword because Deep Sentinel, therefore, requires yet another hub and app.

Moreover, Deep Sentinel only supports outdoor monitoring, so if you want an indoor home security system like Blink, you’ll need a separate hub and companion app. Likewise, Deep Sentinal doesn’t provide any door and window sensors, just cameras and a hub. Notably, the Deep Sentinel PoE camera system does offer integrations with the likes of Hikvision and Uniview.

Deep Sentinal Pricing

You get what you pay for, and although Deep Sentinel isn’t cheap, it’s an excellent performer. The Wireless Camera Deep Sentinel one-camera kit retails for $499 and goes up from there for the three- and six-camera bundles. Then, you’ll need (or want) live surveillance which sets you back at least $100/month. Luckily, you can purchase add-on cameras, so if you cop a one-camera system, you can tack on more cameras later for comprehensive monitoring of up to six cameras.

How to Set Up Deep Sentinel

Getting started with Deep Sentinel is an absolute breeze: just plug in your hub, sync with the app, connect a camera, and start protecting your home from would-be crime.

  1. Connect the Deep Sentinel hub

Plug in your Deep Sentinel hub’s power and Ethernet cables.

  2. Download the Deep Sentinel app

Now, download the Deep Sentinel app on Android or iOS.

  3. Add your hub in the app

Fire up the Deep Sentinel companion app and tap “Add hub,” and select your hub type (wireless or PoE).

  4. Connect your camera(s)

Follow the on-screen instructions and, when prompted, insert the spare battery into the hub’s charging cradle. Then, add a battery into your Deep Sentinel camera, place it near the hub, and wait for the pair to connect.

Deep Sentinel Wireless Camera System vs. PoE System: Which Deep Sentinel Video Surveillance Option is Right for You?

In addition to its wireless camera kit, which we tested, Deep Sentinel also offers its PoE system. The wireless bundle consists of a hub and wireless cameras, which is ideal for residential areas like homes or apartments. The PoE or Power over Ethernet system is better suited for commercial uses such as office buildings, warehouses, or even large residential homes. Since the Deep Sentinel PoE camera kit doesn’t operate wirelessly–both power and data transmit over CAT5 or CAT6 Ethernet cables–it’s catered to pre-wired spaces. Otherwise, you’ll need professional installation.

Deep Sentinel PoE system: Best for commercial spaces (i.e., warehouses, office buildings, etc.)
