The ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP is a small, portable capture card. As its name suggests, the Flink 4KP boasts 4K 60 FPS passthrough as well as recording at 1080p in 60 FPS. It’s got a line in and line out for a 3.5mm audio connection, mic input, and USB-C port for both data transmission as well as power delivery. Its ultra-low latency means the Flint 4KP works great for gaming on PCs, the PlayStation 4 or 5, the Xbox One X or Series X, Nintendo Switch, and a smattering of other consoles. On the software side, the ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus comes bundled with HDML-Cloner Pro Helper, MP4-Cloner, and the ClonerAlliance app. But it also works with popular third-party software such as Open Broadcaster Software (OBS).

ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus Review – An Awesome Capture Card for Gaming, Streaming, and More

Boasting plug-and-play functionality, the ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus is a breeze to set up and use. I first downloaded the included software, HDML-Cloner Pro and MP4-Cloner, using the QR code on the bottom of the device. Thankfully, there’s no fiddling with driver downloads. Both my Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04 rigs identified the ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus immediately. The bundled software suite works well enough for recording video. What’s more, third-party software like Open Broadcaster Software is compatible with the ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus. As such, you can easily record and stream videos using the ClonerAlliance, even broadcasting to game streaming platforms like Twitch. Coupled with its low latency, the ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus is one of the best capture cards for gaming. I recorded some video game footage using my Razer Blade 15 gaming laptop as well as my PlayStation 3 console and experienced no noticeable lag.

While recordings are limited to 60 FPS 1080p, 4K passthrough does work well. I hooked the ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus up to my Hisense H8F 4K UHD television set and ran my Chromecast with Google TV into the capture card. Sure enough, 1080p recordings worked perfectly while the TV displayed a 4K video. Unfortunately, the ClonerAlliance was unable to passthrough a high dynamic range (HDR) signal in either HDR10 or Dolby Vision. That’s not much of an issue however, as my recordings rarely require HDR.

Unfortunately, the ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP is limited to 4K passthrough. Therefore, you can’t actually record in 4K. But its 1080p recordings look absolutely stunning with good color accuracy. When compared with the recording quality from my AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable, the ClonerAlliance looks much better. Having a built-in microphone input is useful, although I merely used my Blue Yeti USB mic and added it as an audio device in OBS. Still, it’s a handy feature for connecting a mic directly to the ClonerAlliance capture card. Similarly, the line in and out jacks are spectacular for being able to connect an analog audio source rather than relying purely on HDMI, and the headphone jack allows you to listen to recordings in real-time.

Unlike some capture boxes, the ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP is limited to PC-based video recording. Whereas certain capture cards like my AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable include PC-less recording such as writing directly to an SD card, the ClonerAlliance needs a computer for both power delivery and recording. However, most times I record or stream, I choose to use a computer anyway so that’s a minor issue. While HDMI is certainly the most common input, a port for legacy connections such as VGA, component, RCA, or S-Video would have been a beneficial inclusion. As is, if you plan to record from legacy devices using VGA, component, A/V, or S-Video inputs, you’ll need some sort of adapter.

Should You Buy the ClonerAlliance 4KP Plus – Final Thoughts

cloneralliance flint 4kp plus review - chromecast

The ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus is an excellent capture device that’s great for gaming, Twitch streaming, and a variety of purposes. Recording quality is top-notch and 4K video passthrough allows you to maintain a 4K video on-screen while capturing 1080p 60 FPS video. The resulting video and audio quality is fantastic. What’s more, plug-and-play simplicity with cross-platform compatibility makes the 4KP Plus a solid choice for video recording and streaming. In addition to the bundled software suite, third-party programs like OBS work well.

For recording gameplay footage and tutorials alike, I found the ClonerAlliance 4KP Plus intuitive and high-performing. 4K video recording would be a nice touch, the ability to easily hook up legacy connections would have been handy, and some form of PC-free recording such as an SD card slot would add a bit more utility. Nevertheless, the ClonerAlliance 4KP Plus fits almost any scenario, and is versatile enough to tackle everything from video game streaming and recording to standard screen capture.
