Dreo PolyFan 513S Review

An air circulator drastically improves cooling compared to a traditional fan by ensuring air stays in motion around the entire room. While Vornado is almost synonymous with air circulators, Dreo–who keeps putting out some of my favorite home electronics, including tower fans, air purifiers, and air fryers–offers excellent air circulators. While I already had a few Vornados, my current rental’s lack of any overhead fans meant I was on a quest for more cooling options. And after my Dreo PolyFan 513S review–a pedestal floor-standing fan–I’m inclined to pick up Dreo’s tabletop model for use in another room. Let’s dive in and look at Dreo’s cool (pun fully intended) air circulator so you can decide if you need one (or more) in your house!

Dreo PolyFan 513S Air Circulator Fan Review Verdict

PolyFan 513S Review - Full

The Dreo PolyFan 513S is a pedestal fan that comes in a floor-standing design. It looks sharp, with a premium-feeling band connecting the fan itself with the stand. A heavy base makes the 513S feel sturdy. I liked the slick gray coloring which doesn’t scream “electronic component,” and blended into my living as much as a fan can.

Onboard, you’ll find a brushless DC motor and special blade design that operates at just 25dB (decibels) for ultra-quiet operation. Indeed, I was easily able to watch movies and TV shows, listen to music, or play video games without the Dreo drowning them out–the PolyFan 513S is sitting in my living room by the entertainment system.

Dreo PolyFan 513S Review - Fan head

By comparison, my Vornado in the same room is smaller, doesn’t move as much air, but is somehow significantly louder than the 513S. Dreo’s PolyFan creates 882CFM of air volume that travels up to 100 feet. I liked the granular control: You’ll find 8 speeds and 6 wind modes, with up to 120-degree horizontal and 105-degree vertical oscillation.

Once my partner and I tinkered around with the PolyFan, we were able to configure its oscillation angles, wind mode, and speed to our liking, then set it as such. There’s a lot of opportunity to really customize your experience.

On top of the unit, you’ll find onboard controls. Alternatively, you can control the Dreo PolyFan 513S with its included remote. Or, there’s Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant support for smart home control and operation, including voice/hands-free control.

While there is voice control, you don’t get a ton of options; just the ability to adjust the fan speed. The bundled remote uses a CR25 battery which isn’t tough to get, but probably isn’t in your battery drawer, unlike more standard AA and AAA batteries.

Still, the Dreo PolyFan 513S is an incredible value. It boasts outstanding build quality, a sleek design, tons of different controls, top-notch air circulation, and quiet operation, making it arguably the best air circulator on the market.

Dreo PolyFan 513S Design and Build

The Dreo PolyFan 513S looks incredibly attractive, with a sort of retro-modern design. Its heavy circular base makes the PolyFan extremely stable. Assembly is pretty simple: just screw the base onto the pole with a single bolt and washer.

A shaft connects the base to the fan, and there’s a brown leather strap that connects the fan to the pole. Its charcoal gray finishes and metal accents really pop, and don’t look cheap despite the modest price tag.

Dreo PolyFan 513S Review - Controls

On top of the unit, you’ll find touch controls. The front of the pole features a useful digital display to show you the fan speed and settings–although, you can turn this off which is handy if you’re using the PolyFan 513S in a bedroom or by your TV.

Dreo PolyFan 513S Controls and Settings: App, Smart Home, and Remote

The Dreo PolyFan 513S is simple to control, yet extremely customizable. You can set everything from the fan speed and wind type to vertical and horizontal oscillation. While there are loads of presets, you can personalize its settings based on your cooling preferences.

I found the easiest way to use the PolyFan 513S was using the Dreo app. Thankfully, all Dreo smart home appliances share one app, so my PolyFan 513S, Pilot Max tower fan, ChefMaker, and Macro Max S air purifier all use the same companion app.

The touch controls on the top are pretty good once you figure them out, but it takes a bit of messing around to figure out what the different buttons do. While that’s because there are so many options, I did find the app had a lower learning curve than the built-in controls.

The remote itself is pretty good, but doesn’t feature as many options, otherwise it would have more buttons than a universal remote. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration come standard, which is nice. But you can pretty much only use voice control to set the fan speed. That’s great, but you don’t get the ability to change modes or set the oscillation. Nevertheless, that seems an easy fix via an app or firmware update.

Dreo PolyFan 513s Review Final Thoughts: Should You Buy the Dreo PolyFan Air Circulator?

If you’re in the market for an air circulator, the Dreo PolyFan 513S is an exceptional choice. It provides outstanding cooling, stays nearly silent, and sports smart home integrations, all while looking incredibly sleek. While voice control is underwhelming, and the remote uses a non-standard battery, I didn’t find these to be the biggest issues at all. The granular control over its settings and terrific performance make the PolyFan 513S an incredible air circulator that does a top-notch job that deserves space in your home.
